Roll call: Chicago caravan to the TOD

It looks like some details regarding the trip to the Tail of the Dragon have been firmed up. The dates that we are planning to drive the TOD are May 5th and 6th which means most of us will be taking the 4th and 7th off for the drive down and drive back. As RandallNeighbour mentioned in another thread we need to book our hotel/motel rooms now as we will be competing with other groups. As of right now myself and a couple other 986 forum members are booked at the www.twowheelinn.com . The rooms are going fast so book them ASAP or do some searching for another place to stay (please post if you find another place with open rooms).

Please post if you want to join the caravan coming from the Chicago area.

I would imagine that as we get closer to the actual event RandallNeighbour will be posting details on meeting places and other items.

Sammy, I will caravan with you. I bet NickCats will too.
 1) How far away is Knoxville from TOD?
 2) Are wives going?
 3) It would be great if someone could design a TOD Porsche T-shirt for purchase!

NickCats has his hotel booked for he and Mrs. NickCats. I am also booked for myself and Ms. CouldpossiblybeMrsSammysomeday...
I don't know how far Knoxville is from the TOD.

TOD Porsche T-shirt... hmm... maybe we can con our local creative photoshop guru DJ into coming up with something?

I am guessing about +8 hours. They are about 2 hours away from Knoxville.

Knoxville is about 550 miles from Chicago.

I did a quick mapquest from Wheaton, IL to Robbinsville, NC and it comes up about 10.5 hours.

Count me in as well. I think I'm going to have to meet up with you all somehow. I'm in Lansing, MI, and it's almost a straight shot south on I-75 to get there.

Count me in for the caravan to the TOD.
Also, I have two brand new Motorola Talkabout Walkie Talkies.

Let me know if I should bring them for the trip down.

I figure it's about 600 miles to the hotel, so should take < 10 hours.

Chills, you need to book your room now. If plans change and you cannot make it, you can cancel your reservation up to two weeks before. Cancellation fee is only $20.

Look forward to seeing ya'll down there. I had a blast there on the Harley two years ago, but I really wished I was in a sports car ( or on a crotch rocket ).

 Go bears !

 Nick

This is great! We'll figure out the meeting details as we get closer.

Are we going to all get single rooms or could we share and split the cost?

I will be sharing my room with my GF and I believe both NickCats and bmusatti will be bringing their wives. I don't know the story with the other guys, but you might post on the thread that RandallNeighbour started that you're looking for a rommate?

alright guys, I'm not too sure I want to go to this thing but the appeal is more to meet all of you, think it would be a blast. Are you all driving the boxster for 8 hours straight? I know the wife will be asleep half hour into the trip!
anyway, I'm thinking I want to go now, what reasoniong are you giving the ladies to talk them into this being worthwhile for them!?

I might go half-way on that Thursday, say Cinncy or Louisville, and spend the night. This is good for the wife. The other thought is my wife could fly into Knoxville and I pick her up or she can fly home on the way out.

The "reasoning" for my wife is a few days alone with no kids. She likes the top down driving. She won't like the actual TOD, unless I go slow.

Super, maybe we can find a mall, spa or salon for the wifes. I'll look into it.
