SC986 01-09-2007 04:41 PM

Will it be the same color of its big brother?

djomlas 01-09-2007 04:46 PM

it sure will, it has to look up to something :)

right now i am seperating all the pieces that need to be painted body colored, black, silver, and whathave you. dividing them all up, painting them, and then the assembly can start

RAZOR1 01-09-2007 04:53 PM

Where did you score the model from?

Joe

djomlas 01-09-2007 05:10 PM

a hobby store near my house, comes w hardtop, soft top, speedster humps, 2 sets of wheels, all decals...very nice quality i might add.
its made by Tamiya

Jeph 01-09-2007 06:06 PM

Tamiya makes some good models indeed. Real rubber tires too!

Sidenote djomlas: You're such a wizard with photoshop...
Do you think you could resize your images a bit before you post them? 800 pixels wide tops?

djomlas 01-09-2007 06:09 PM

yea i could resize them no prob, but i just wanted all the pieces to be shown in as much detail as possible.
point taken :)

and yes real rubber tires :)

Wonko The Sane 01-09-2007 07:25 PM

I got that exact model for christmas from a friend.. well, mine is silver with a red interior... I need to find some red and amber paint for the tail/head lights before i start mine :)

djomlas 01-09-2007 07:28 PM

attention to detail is pretty sweet, michelin tires, even speaker grilles and everything, kinda neat

djomlas 01-09-2007 08:12 PM

here are some pics of some randome parts that are somewhat done

djomlas 01-09-2007 11:53 PM

i think im about 80% done.
all thats left is some fine tuning, and fixing headlights and tail lights and some other little odds and ends.
heres another pic, color is pretty much the same as my car, but the light in my room doesnt show it that well, its making it blue for some reason, i will get better pics when its all done
but you can see soft top and roadster humps :)

Chills 01-10-2007 04:23 AM

That's pretty cool, dj. I want one now.

Bavarian Motorist 01-10-2007 08:27 AM

Cool! Why are there two sets of wheels?

djomlas 01-10-2007 10:05 AM

there are 2 couse u have a choice to buils a special edition boxster with speedster hups and color matched wheels, or regular one with soft top and chrome wheels.
but it jsut happend that the special edition wheels are the same ones that i have on my car and i have a hardtop, so its kinda nice.

attention to detail is pretty crazy, even the exhaust tip is 'chrome' add on piece.

i will post more pics later on, im in school til 10pm or so, i test fitted it and the front for some reason sits too high, so i have to play with the suspension to give it a nice stance.

Perfectlap 01-10-2007 10:10 AM

where are the GT3 seats/bumper and Carrera 5 spokes !?!

CJ_Boxster 01-10-2007 10:35 AM

Heres a tip for the exhaust manifolds, get some redish orangish spray paint, mask the muffler and the tip, Spray some of the spray paint into the air and wave the manifolds past the still floating paint, give it that realistic rust look.

Marc Gelefsky 01-10-2007 10:45 AM

Geez.. it's a freakin automatic! :)

drburton 01-10-2007 12:00 PM

So you got me looking into models from this thread and I ended up coming across a diecast of a Boxster that I thought was pretty cool. Looks just like mine!

So I ordered it for my desk at work. Maybe kinda silly, but looks really cool.

986Roadster 01-10-2007 12:13 PM

that's very cool DJ.

If i send you mine, will you finish it....lol/jokes. i have the same boxster model 1/24 and it's been sitting in my closet since the day i bought it. the best part is that i have a bag of paint and brushes with it sitting collecting dust.

i think you just gave me inspiration to finish the job.

986Roadster 01-10-2007 12:18 PM

nawww doc

the best part is painting it, and puting it together.

looks pretty cool, very detailed, i hope mine looks like that...dam you

SC986 01-10-2007 04:09 PM

It's looking good. You made fast progress!

unklekraker 01-10-2007 04:22 PM

dj,

Looks great ! I actually ordered that model a couple of months ago online, but I never received it and they never charged my credit card so I forgot about it

Can you post information on the hobby shop you picked it up at ? I would like to grab one this weekend...

Thanks !

Nick

djomlas 01-11-2007 06:03 AM

z12358 01-11-2007 06:45 AM

djomlas, that looks really good.
I wonder if they have a 987 kit. What's the exact name of the product (brand, model, etc) for an online search? How did you do the painting?

CJ_Boxster 01-11-2007 08:14 AM

flip it upside down, i wanna see what the under body looks like.

djomlas 01-11-2007 12:19 PM

CJ, ill snap a picture of underbody tomorrow, my camera is not here now.

but in the meantime, enjoy a picture with the big brother

bmussatti 01-11-2007 12:29 PM

DJ, are you going to Zaino that baby?

I hope you have no issues with the RMS! :(

djomlas 01-11-2007 12:31 PM

i did get warranty so RMS wont be a problem hehehe

SC986 01-11-2007 04:10 PM

What technique did you use to paint it? Nice detail with the Porsche and Boxster emblem.

super66 01-11-2007 04:33 PM

I don't know why but this entire thread is making me crack up!!! looks great man....its kind of funny you got it that close to looking like yours!!!! insane! rms failure, that's great stuff....

I can't wait till Ohio boxster buys one so we can see the "riced" out version with the dreaded supercharger and boost gauge :D sorry, sorry couldn't resist!
