Roll bar trim removal question
 

I've searched the manuals for some clue as to how the trim is attached to the roll bar. I'm interested in removing it to paint them the body color but hessitate to just start prying or pulling them off but I see no other way that they might be fastened. Help would be appreciated. Also going to have rear bumperettes painted. 2000 non-S guards red. GS

There was a great post about this, with pictures, over on the www.renntech.org site several months ago. Maybe you can do a search, or post your question there.

You basically wedge it off with a screw driver looking thing with a U-shaped tip... you always run a risk of breaking something there...even with the right tools from what i've read.

I did check out the Renntech.org site and found a few helpful hints. I got them off alright but they are difficult even with a trim removal tool. I haven't decided yet whether I will paint the rollbar in place or remove it as removal requires cabrio top removal also...Thank you all for the help!

You gotta use a trim tool and pull like you never pulled before..its a ******************** but they will come off...

I used a large flathead screwdriver wrapped in a t-shirt. Pull the trim back and use a flaslight to see where it is attached, then pry at that spot. I was able to re-use all the plastic molly type pieces to put back into place. Even though almost everything is expensive with a Porsche, I would think replacing those plasic pieces as needed at the dealer would be pretty cheap. Pry away, it's not that hard and you don't need any special tools!

After getting the trim off the rollbar with much effort while still in the car, I've decided to paint what I can with the "bar" still installed. Looks like a lot of work to get the bar disconnected from the cabrio in the first place. I'll mask off everything except what needs to be painted. I purchased the paint supplies from www.paintscratch.com and will paint my rollbar and rear bumperettes myself. I'll try to include some photos if it comes out good... Thanks to all.
