Sport Exhaust

Hi everyone, could you help me decide which upgrade is best for my 2001 Porsche 986 Boxster 2.7?

I’m looking to improve the sound of my car, and I’m torn between two options:

1. Porsche Exhaust Sport part # 996-111-141-05 , I can’t copy/paste the link here but mother sierra dot com has it on their website!

2. Fabspeed Porsche 986 Boxster Maxflo Performance Exhaust System (listed here): https://www.fabspeed.com/porsche-986-boxster-maxflo-performance-exhaust-system-1997-2004/?revpage=2%20#product-reviews

I understand that these are different upgrades—one is a muffler, and the other is an exhaust system. Although the price difference is significant (double), I’m leaning towards the Fabspeed exhaust system, but I’ve heard that it may not be worth it for a 2.7-liter engine.

I’m also considering the Dansk Sport muffler as an alternative, as long as it provides some additional sound. However, I don’t have any specific references or opinions on this, so I was hoping you could share your thoughts. I know there might be other options available, but for now, these are the two I’m currently debating.

I appreciate your help and look forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance!

If you are looking to replace your muffler, you could try this mod first as you would have nothing to lose.

Although I have to mention I did it on my 2.5L with a 2.7/3.2 muffler and I found with stock cats there was no change.
Only after installing 200 cell cats could I hear the difference.

What do you mean it might not be worth it for a 2.7? Are looking for an aggressive sound or performance? There is minimal performance from an exhaust upgrade only. If it is sound, then you want a top name brand system as many of the cheaper versions will have you ending up with a drone sound that will drive you crazy in the 2500 to 3000 rpm range (final drive rpm range) but sound great in the higher revs for a short period of time. If you use your car for any longer drives, the drone will have you wishing for the stock exhaust.

I ran a Borla system with catless headers on my Boxster S and had to take it off. Went back to stock and am much happier.

I really enjoy what I did which was remove the secondary cats with some random test pipes I got for like 90 bucks and do the fister mod where you weld a tube from the inlet to the outlet of your exhaust.

IMHO, it's better to invest on a good quality exhaust that you can always sell afterwards if you end selling up your car.

Personally, I have fabulous experience with the SpeedArt (sound version), sold in the USA as..? (sorry brain fart..), but her name is Rhonda, she is in FL I will get back to you as soon as I remember her company name..

PS: Fabspeed has good reputation as a No drone exhaust ..(I would stay away from Borla..)

FVD Brombacher sound version?

I'm very happy with mine paired with 200 cell cats, but looks like it's price has almost doubled in the last four years.

YES..! It was FVD Brombacher :-)

That is the company that I was trying to remember, I bought from Rhonda the "sound version" for my 987CS and was Very happy with it, with literally Cero drone, and sadly, a few years later when my car got totalled (T-boned..) I sold the exhaust, coil overs, OS Giken LSD, IPD plennum, etc,

If I remember correctly I sold all the components fairly quick roughly at half price of the cost when they were new. the only things that I kept was the Tarett rear toe links (assumed that they were gone but saw them the other day on the garage)

Thanks for all the inputs so far! Does anyone have any information about the Dansk Sport Exhaust? Here’s the link: https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/us/pc1110076-sports-exhaust-rear-muffler-stainless-steel.html?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20951594081&gbraid=0AAAAACmlvQK1VCHV6OJevQyua7r4fvKKb&gclid=CjwKCAiAkbbMBhB2EiwANbxtbYfj6V4zWsKIbduZ4kxs iqWKbfmE_-cZOiA7zknkWCCqPKXyf26UQxoCwmMQAvD_BwE

I can easily obtain this exhaust here in LA. I’m just trying to understand if it actually enhances the sound of my current single-pipe stock exhaust.

I have this one and really like it.

Notably lighter weight and a more compact size.

Sound is a subjective parameter, but to my ears it offers a nice improvement over stock.
