I'm just about finished rebuilding one. While I replaced the rails, I'm not certain it's really a necessity. In both engines I've taken down--and one had significant damage from debris blocking the oil pickup--there was minimal wear to the rails. The pads were nearing total breakup, with one at 106,000 miles and the other unknown.
And unlike the adjuster pads, they seem like the same material as the originals.
