I just topped off my tank, and several ounces spilled over and drained through the hole adjacent to the filler neck.
I figured I would have left a puddle on the ground, but nothing.
Where does that fuel go? Is my drain line clogged?
For years fuel fills have been designed with vapor recovery systems and with what are called vapor space by the SAE at the top of the fuel tank. Topping off tends to drive fuel into the vapor recovery system and can result in damage that can get expensive. The automatic shutoff point of the fuel nozzle is dictated by the engineers and the standards bodies (NIST and SAE).
Thanks for the reply.
I didn't squeeze it again after it shut off. I removed the nozzle, and it kept filling the neck and spilled over.
I guess I was expecting what I'd see on my motorcycle (small fuel puddle).
