What's a tired, broken engine worth?

It finally happened. Oil in the coolant. I've ruled out the oil cooler and my indy mechanic says cracked head is likely. We agreed it didn't make much sense to replace heads on an engine with 300,000+ miles. Low milage used engine on the way.

So what do I do with the old engine? Besides a couple of easy to grab things like the brand new oil cooler, and maybe the MAF sensor, is there anything of value left, or should I just tell my mechanic to scrap it?

You could build a coffe table with the engine block, it would be awesome and your wife may even like it

This engine is done. You can do the coffee table thing. You might be able to get a few bucks from a scrapper if you do the hauling.

Hold onto it until your replacement engine is installed. For the moment it only has scrap value, but if the replacement has anything missing or damaged from removal or shipping a few small parts or the intact wiring harness may save you some hassle.
The only time that I had someone need parts from a high mile damaged engine was when they were repairing a car that had a fire and wanted to replace all the accessories and sensors.

Holy Crap! Engine block coffee tables are selling for thousands of dollars! Likely a lot of work to clean and polish though.

Yes! It would be a lot of elbow grease to polish your block, but basically you will only have to buy the glass top and its supporting studs to end with a nice looking coffee table

Probably should split the halves and lose a lot of weight. And, least important, have someone etch a Porsche logo on the glass.

Ya, and you can bring he engine hoist in from the garage when you want to vacuum under the table or rearrange the furniture...
