LEDs—from Porsche!
I just noticed this in the new legacy parts notice.
This could solve the search for better lighting in our Boxsters.

Yup, I installed those as Hi-Beams in my Litronics. Way better than any existing H7, no doubt.

There are legal Philips and Osram LEDs available now, too.
And legal parking light LEDs, too. SADLY not (yet) for the Litronics, as they have a different socket.

New 986 factory halogens now come with leds. Not as good as real projector LEDs but brighter than halogens.
New and old:

That's bonkers, even for a Porsche part for a headlight bulb

So unfortunately there is a lot of qualification work and costs for higher-level expertises involved, because there is a certificate (which you have to show at the vehicle inspection, for example), which confirms the use of the LED in a lens designed for halogen.
Unfortunately, this is very expensive because bureaucratic -- at least in europe.

I installed the Osram night breaker LED as low beam on my 986 S this year. They are road legal, but the boxster is unfortunatly on the approved list.
Way brighter than the halogens, but the light spread is not optimal, with some spots having weaker light. Will look into the porsche ones.

I just bought those….
…..I ordered them from Europe as they are not available in the United States.
I installed them and am now experiencing a strange headlight malfunction.
When I have the fog lights on, and I turn on my hi-beams and then return to low-beams, the fog lights do NOT come back on and the Litronics stay in the “Hi-Beam” position.
I have to turn the lights off and then back on to get the fog lights back on.
I installed a brand new, factory, OEM Porsche headlight switch, and that did NOT fix this issue.
My car has been in the shop for other work and I have not had a chance to really test the bulbs for lighting, other than a 20 minute test drive.
I think they are better than the old halogens.
Any suggestions for solving this fog light issue is appreciated.
Thanks.

Could you share where you were able to order them from?
Thanks,
Eric

Thanks! I ordered a set. We'll see if they actually ship and whether or not there'll be a tariff on them.

They did ship! They left France this morning. Excited to see how much better they are than the halogens. Also, interested to see if there'll be a tariff and how much it will be.

If your in the US, you guys pay 10% import tax/tariff at the moment on EU products ad far as i know. Unless french products has something else. Kinda hard to follow as theres constant back and forth/noise. First it was 50%, then it was something else the next day etc.
At least you didn't have to order from china😄

I had questions about tariffs, as the checkout page mentioned that a 25% tariff might be added to U.S. shipments. However, no additional charges were applied in the end.
Installation was incredibly easy—classic German engineering!
The difference between the LEDs and the original halogens is significant. The headlights now look much more modern, and the visibility has greatly improved. The light is whiter and brighter, and the beam pattern is very similar, if not identical, to the original.
For my money, this is a highly worthwhile upgrade.

Congrats! That does look great. I felt the same with the OSRAM nightbreakers i installed, and its much brighter. Thinking about testing them for the high beam and see how that works. I have blue "xenon look" halogens as high beam now and I feel its a bit dim.

I have these Porsche LEDs….
…..in the fogs and the high beams.
They are so white, that they made the factory HID look yellow.
I had to buy a “white” HID bulb to better match these Porsche LEDs.
I now have an all white headlight and fog setup.
So far, so good, although I have a weird issue now.
The fog lights do not come back on and the Litronics stay in the “up” position after I turn on the high beams.
I have to cycle the headlight off and on to return fog light function and get the Litronics back down to low beam level.
This happened after the LED install in the fogs and high beams.
I went out and bought a new Porsche light switch and installed it and the condition did not go away.
