Investigating a fuel smell in the cabin and came across this...

After driving a while I get a gas smell in the cabin. I removed the battery and the battery tray and noticed the top of the sending unit is wet and does smell like gas.

What's a best next step on this one?

Do you not have an engine code for an evap leak? It could be the sending unit or a connector.

Agree that your fuel sender unit is likely failing. The plastic is very discolored so you likely have a crack somewhere.

Thanks everyone! When I went to clean it I noticed that I was able to turn the black ring an entire 360 degrees before I couldn't tighten it by hand anymore.

I highly doubt it's that simple, but would be nice if it is!

Go a step further and use correct specification together with a new seal. Special tool 3217 required or similar. Tightening torque with new union nut and new sealing ring 70 Nm.

If it was loose I gess it was the culprit.

For my understanding, in this case (e.g. crack) would you not only replace part no. 5 or is the recommendation in this case to replace the whole unit?
