Engine stand

As I proceed with my engine rebuild, I will need to mount it in such a way to be able to drop the IMS into the crankcase, then add the other half. When I tore it down, I used one of the standard ones buy it doesn't really fit the bolt pattern of the M96.
I know there is an adapter made for the air-cooled engines. I found some for the M96 but if, and that's a big if, there is one in stock, it is $700.
That seems a little outrageous, even for something Porsche-related.
What have some of you used for this purpose?
