I use a support bar above the engine compartment and a 1,500 lb ATV lift underneath. I place plywood and wood blocks on the ATV lift to support the engine without damaging the sump plate. I keep the car fairly low on jack stands while lowering and raising the engine and only have it high while moving the engine in or out from under the car.
Go slowly. Always expect that there is one wire or hose that you forgot to disconnect and find it before you cause damage.
