What is this tape?

When I got my boxster there were these two pieces of tape on the body panels where the frunk comes down and touches the plastic shrouds. Does anyone have these? I am not sure if I need to replace these or not and where might I source the material. I have seen paint protection film on amazon but this might be thicker than that.

That pic is WAAAYYY too small. Kick it up a notch. Try for 3X bigger. Then we'll know what we're looking at.

Is it possible that we’ve all been driving around for 20 years with this vestigial appendage from factory shipping?

Two of my past ones had it so yes. I’m not positive that is what it is but that’s what I’ve been told.

+1, my two Caymans had these pieces of tape on the rear hatch, and I always believe that the factory put them there to help avoid rattling on the large hatch.. (?) however, I am leaving mine right where they are
