Captive nut above top latch in windshield frame

If you've replaced the top latch microswitch you might not have realized that the captive nuts for the bolts holding the latch are made of plastic. Yep one of mine has cracked in pieces. Anyone know how to get into that cavity to remove the pieces and replace it? I'm hoping Step 1 is not - Remove Windshield...

Oh some knucklehead did a quality write up on r&r-ing those many moons ago...

Not plastic but terrible design and quality regardless.

Skip step 1 as it is the only way to get in there. BUT not necessary to fix properly... and BTW do all six while there as I can assure you all will need done sooner rather than later... ounce of prevention so to speak...
