Small Brown Bits in the Oil Filter

I helped a friend change the oil in his 98 986. I notice a few small brown plastic bits on the oil filter. I’d say about 10 bits. Are these cam pad bits and is it something to worry about?

Hi there, Did replaced mine years ago on my ‘98 Boxster. They were all worn out with deep tracks from timing chains.
Don’t wait too long, it’s a must do. Check the timing tensioners too (3)

I don't agree with everything in this article but it gives a good overview with pictures...

I am doing this very project as we speak.

Ordered tensioner rails( 2 sets ) , new chains ( 2 ) , cam caps, ( 6) sealant.

Just bought the car and it is throwing a code so going to be doing this on jack stands.
just trying to get some tools.
