Becker CDR 210 Radio Code Help

New battery and now the radio is displaying CODE.
I don't have the factory manual with the radio code but found this procedure:

CR-210/CDR-210:
Press tone, then 8 and 0 simultaneously. "Becker" appears. Press station up arrow on right. "PR-VERS" appears. Press one of the numbered buttons below the display, directly below the LCD arrowheads (try a few). The model number will appear. Press station up arrow on right. "SERIAL N" will appear. Press the numbered button again. The serial number will appear.
Or, if the radio is out of the car the then the serial number is on the label.

I was able to get the following info by following the procedure.

R2896
Serial V5010579

Model is BE22 (1998)

Whenever I enter 2896 for the CODE the first char just starts blinking like it wants
more than 4 characters.

Is there a special button sequence to "save" the code?

What am I doing wrong or does the above info just give you a key to the magic kingdom of CODES?

Update:
I found a thread that said to use the Signal Seek button (#7) to save the radio code.

Tried it a few times but did not change the symptoms.

I noticed the faceplate is removable and decided to look at the contacts.
They looked fine so I reinstalled without too much effort.

Now the radio will not Power On !!!

When the code is lost, you can not get the unlock code directly from the radio by pressing buttons. The R2896 is not the code, I think it's the revision number.

There are some vendors on eBay that will provide an unlock code for about $5. I have also heard that Becker will do it if you contact them directly as well as your local Porsche dealership. If you are lucky, it may be written somewhere in the car. Original paperwork has a card with the code number. I wrote it with a marker on my battery and the radio itself.

Question

I found the attached 993 Radio Code card as an example which seems to align
with the info read from the unit by the button sequence process.

Guess I will spend a few bucks on eBay and see what code I get.

You are making this entirely too complicated. If you get the correct radio removal keys, and pull the radio out, you can get the correct serial number off the back of it, which you can then send to Loren over on RennTech and he will give you a working code for it.....and for free to boot....
