Roll-bar strength...?

I wonder if anyone knows how sturdy the Boxster's roll-bar really is -- if it perhaps will fold while rolling over at speed, i.e. making it a mouse-trap?

This was one of the safety concerns I had for my old roadster and its so-called style-bar, and hence got a race-approved roller instead:

if you decide you want to add a Brey Krause roll bar extension (SCCA and PCA acccepted), let me know. I still have mine in the garage & would like to sell. It raises the height, provides added protection, but does not have an angled brace rearward. Not sure how you would add a typical track set-up in the Box, given the folding top position. The factory style bar mounting points look to be robust.

Hi,

The Boxster RollBar is made of high tensile strength Stainless Steel. It should provide more than adequate rollover protection. That said, a rollbar extension is required in some forms of racing and DE as a Tech Spec.

For information on Boxster safety in general, and rollbar safety in particular (page 6 of the report), see Porsche's report to the NHTS here: http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/nrd-01/Esv/esv16/98S8O06.PDF Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99
