Stranger In a Strange Land

Doing my own repairs and maintenance is the only way I can justify driving a Porsche. I refuse to pay the Porsche dealership's stratospheric rates on general principle. On the other hand, when I'm scrunched under the car, dirt from the underside falling in my eyes, and I can't find the tool I need because I knocked it under the creeper, and I've lost a nut or bolt, and I bonk my head on a frame member getting out — I wonder what the hell I'm doing there.

Listen, EVERYONE who chooses to work on these cars (and on any other cars) has ALL of these things in common.

The busted knuckles, scrapes, and bruises add to the pride of ownership. I was on blood thinners for a yr after my heart attack. I got some massive bruises from the 928, but it was worth it. I'm going to research and try to do something before I pay to have it done. Most times it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

Yes, we are a bit odd but now my 29 year old son works on his vehicles as well. It is a good skill and desire to have IMHO even though my skills are on the low end. My son has taken it to the next level.

And some women laugh at limitations.
