HVAC Blend Door Plugs

With summer on the way, I'm getting ready to tackle the HVAC blend doors in my '98. Searching for "Porsche Blend Door Plugs" doesn't yield any results, but I know that the VW plugs also work. I just want to make sure I get the right plugs.

Will the plugs for the 1992-2005 Golf/Jetta/Beetle/Passat work?

The oblong plugs should work, given that the HVAC box is based on the Golf 4.

I looked at photos from when I repaired it on mine. It looks like the kit should close up everything in the box.

Why not just cover the holes with foil tape?
