Boxster S immobilizer

I have a 2001 S model and am having trouble with what I believe is the immobilizer. All started when I replaced a broken light switch. When my lights stopped working, I pulled me car out of the garaged and turned it around to back it in - everything was working fine. Once I replaced the lights again, got in and the car will not start. It will come on but will not start. The keys fobs do not work so everything is done manually with the key. And now to make matters worse, when I unlocked the car (not thinking I locked it) because i cannot get the car to start, the alarm came on. I had to unplug the negative terminal to get the alarm to turn off. I let the car sit with the battery charger on it all weekend and just went outside to see if it reset. The alarm is still coming on, the car still turns on but not over. I even turned the car on and then reconnected the battery. Nothing is working.

I can't see where any water got into the immobilizer because it literally worked 5 minutes before it didn't (keys not ignition). I am at my wit's end and just want to reset/remove/replace the immobilizer but I can't see where anyone else has had any luck in getting answers to this. The battery is fine, the car just will not start.

I am open to any and all suggestions at this point. I don't want to have it towed until I have tried everything. There isn't a dealer within 90 miles of me so the more I can learn before I have to go that route the better.
