snapped key

turned my key this morning, was some resistance. this gappened the day before and a good turn got it started just fine. today though it snapped at the base of the fob. the car only came w a single set of keys, am I stuck with going to the dealership?

Did the blade break or the fob itself? If it’s just the fob, any used fob will work as long as the remote board and the immobilizer pellet are swapped in.

thanks for reply. i think there is a bit of the blade within the fob? it only works w fob slotted onto the blade

There are a lot of sources for a new key and most locksmiths will cut one from your old blade. If you buy one that has the same fob design it's not hard to move the internal parts from the old to the new.

Curious, were you able to address the underlying issue that made it difficult to turn the key? I've noticed mine is getting close to being a cause for concern in the cold winter temps. I'm hoping a new Audi ignition switch will do the trick.

haven't had the chance to address the key or underlying issue yet, have been travelling. on the last leg of my travel I spun out on the highway into the grassy median! not having much luck w 986 these days. lots of small projects to work on, will update
