Boot Options for Aftermarket Shift Knobs

I have a stock 6 speed shift knob with the integrated boot. I am thinking about replacing it with an aftermarket knob (maybe Raceseng).

What are my options for a boot? Do people normally cut the boot off the old knob and zip tie it to the new one? On ebay it looks like there are places that sell leather replacements, but you would need to attach it to a base.

I would prefer not to hack up my old knob in case I swap back in the future. Thanks!

The e-Bay boot that I bought when I replaced my shift knob works just fine for me. You'll probably need to move the hard plastic frame on the bottom of the boot from the original boot to the new one but that is easy to do without damaging anything.

Good luck with your project and do post a photo when you're done!

cheers - dj

I used a cheap Bride one from Amazon and took the plastic piece from the stock boot and made it work. It looks pretty good, I think. I thought I had a picture but I can't find it.

When I upgraded my shifter I wanted to hang onto the original knob as well. I went to an upholstery shop and had a boot made of genuine leather for $60 IIRC. It came out really nice and is unique to my vehicle. It tells the story of where the car has been and I had good conversation with the shop owner too.

Just to follow up, I came across a nice tequipment weighted knob on eBay at a price I couldn’t resist. Should be arriving tomorrow. If I don’t like it, I’ll re-list it and pursue one of these boot options. Many thanks for the ideas!

The knob arrived with the base/set screw torn off. So it's going back and the search continues.

I'm thinking one of the ICT knob boot combos or a raceseng circuit sphere.

You can find a few vendors on Etsy that make custom shift boots. There are a few 996/986 options on there. You can find a new boot frame at Pelican if you want to keep your stock knob in tact..

I ordered the Raceseng circuit sphere 100 with red ring....stay tuned for pics. Plan to use it with no boot for now to see if I like it, then worry about the boot.

Looks like you can get a new boot insert/holder for $40 and an ebay leather boot for around $25....
