Fab Speed alternative

Can’t justify spending 50% of my cars value on an exhaust system. Just looking for a better sound and possibly a little more power

Also - look for a used system at a local dealer... people [ahem] often leave abandoned parts at local P-car and high end aftermkt dealers who remove when vehicles are traded. Which reminds me, I need to pick up a few of my old systems at the dealer... maybe week after next... LOL...

Similarly...

How do you like the Borla? Does it drone? I am looking for a drone free fabspeed alternative too.

Internal exhaust mod

Check this out. I have it and it is way better than the China knock offs.

That does seem like a good option. What’s the consensus on the number of holes on each side and the size of each hole?

Here's an easier way to get more sound out from the stock muffler.
However in my opinion there's no muffler that adds noticeable sound with stock cats.

How did you get four holes? Once I got my first one done, any further attempts just slip into the first hole. Mine is about 7/8"/22mm.

I used a large flat head screwdriver and a hammer to make a small dent that I could use to hold an M12 bolt in position I used to punch out the holes.

Edit: After I took the photo I punched two more holes.
The modded stock Boxster S muffler with 200 cell cats had only tiny bit more drone and rasp than the FVD Brombacher sound edition muffler I have now, otherwise the exhaust sound is very similar.

Fister Exhaust MOD is your only option if you don't want drone https://fdmotorsports.net/ I have a circuitwerks exhaust and it has drone. I added motorcycle baffles and the drone is gone

The internal mod has no drone. It is also free if you know how to weld. If you don't know how to weld a muffler shop can weld it back up for not much money. Even with the stock cats the sound is great. Even better if you live in an area that doesn't like modified exhausts, it looks totally stock. My friend has the Fister mod and my internal mod exhaust sounds very similar.

I think the internal mod makes more sense. The fister exhausts look great, but my understanding is that they are used mufflers that are modded (ex. you send in your core). That's a lot of money for a muffler that isn't new.

Btw, has anyone figured out why the boxster drones without a cross over in the exhaust, but the 996s don’t? I looked at a diagram of the 996 and don’t see a crossover.
