Soft top replacement too loose?

Hey guys, this past weekend i installed a replacement soft top on the boxster... after putting it on and closing it I'm seeing some ripples in the fabric. Attaching pics. Top is closed in these pics. I think when I glued the front end I could have pulled it tighter. I was also thinking maybe if I let it temperature cycle in the heat it will workout okay. My friend said to get over it and just enjoy the top.

It's a sierra top with the german fabric and glass window. The top doesn't close on it's own properly still. I have to pull it closed, but when it's closed these ripples stay there. I haven't opened again. Planning to leave it in the sun for a couple weeks before i open it again.

What do you guys think? Just leave it? Or should i redo it?

I've done a couple of Boxster tops a few year back. I don't remember the wrinkles in the same area as your. My top(s) were very tight and hard to close. The sun helped loosen thing, which won't necessarily help you but will not cause wrinkles to worsen.

There's not to mess up on installing the tops so I'm not sure home much a redo will help. I do remember messing with the plates above the side windows but not really having to tug or much to get a snug fit.

Thanks for the feedback. I let it sit in the sun for a few weeks... it got a little better. Almost not noticeable on one side, but the other side is pretty bad still. I sent an email to autotops direct asking if they think it's a defect or if they recommend re-gluing it. Will make a decision based on their response. I might just live with it. It's not that noticeable in the day-to-day.

Also, the top is super easy to close haha... makes me think something isn't tight enough.

Hey McSpooney, I'm having a similar issue with the same top on my 986. I just finished the installation a few days ago, and have looseness/wrinkles on the passenger side of the top in roughly the same place as yours, but I also have a little bit of wrinkling on the "B" pillar part of the top just behind the passenger window. Drivers side looks great.

The only thing I think could tighten it up would be pulling the top tighter by moving the hole you have to make in the fabric where the lower part of the tension cables mount to the frame.

Did you ever get yours sorted? Any response from Autotops direct?
