radio locked out.. help

my 1997 986 battery went dead and radio locked out. I contacted my porsche dealer and gave him my vin number and he gave me a four digit. code. when I put code in nothing happens. any advise?

Seems the radio doesn't belong to the car.

Pull the radio out and look up the serial number of the radio. There are databases / generators for the serial number out there. The Renntech link might also help.

I’m a little worried about this event. We’re about to strip my 2003 down for a repaint and I’m concerned that some things will become locked out, like the radio, when we remove the battery. Does a dead (or removed) cause this to happen? Does it affect any other things?

2003/2004 use a different radio, they are CANBUS and as long as you don't change the immobilizer, you should be fine
