I got a weird issue that I don't even know what to do a search for. I went to gas up my 2001 and had a hard time getting it to take gas. I put the pump in and next thing I know it stops and gas comes gushing back out. I tried a different angles with the handle and the same thing kept happening. I was able to put some in going very slowly but it would have taken me all night at that rate. I was on empty with the low fuel light on and it had been about 200 miles since I last fueled up. Seems like a blockage in the fill pipe maybe? Anyone have any ideas what might cause this to happen?

200 miles? You go through a tank of gas every 200 miles? wow

have seen this talked about before. can't remember exactly what the issue was though. Think it's a solenoid issue or purge valve but dont quote me on that.

You can try a search for 'fuel vent valve'. From what I found in old notes; Check fuse E6. There is a vent valve on top of the fuel tank & under the battery tray that can cause it and also a valve on the filler neck beneath the fender.

Those are the most likely, but there's also the charcoal canister and evap valve under the engine intake left side.

It's the filler neck valve. Pelican did a video on replacent. It's not too bad.

FWIW, before I upgraded my injectors, I got about 215 miles per tank routinely. 986.2 injectors bumped that up significantly though.

Thats only averaging 14mpg. Half of what you should be getting. I get an average of 24 around town & 29 on highway trips...sometimes more

Now that I think about it, I did get a new battery since last time I filled up so that reset the trip odometer. I just put the number it showed out there to avoid the "was it already full?" responses. The filler neck valve makes logical sense to me so I've got one ordered. Thanks for the responses.

I have had this problem twice with my 2000. First time it was the cannister. Last year it was the fuel tank bleeder valve. Also had a problem with the fuel flap being slightly bent and not contacting the micro switch.
