Would a 986S tip transmission work in a 986 base?

My 2000 986 base tiptronic possibly has a major problem with the transmission which may require a full transmission rebuild. Someone near me has parted out a 2004 986S, and they are selling the full transmission from that car for much less than the rebuild would cost.

Does anyone know if the 986S transmission would work in my 986 base?

Appreciate any advice, thanks

Double check the PET part numbers but I believe they are the same.
