Who has aftermarket steering wheel?, And a few more questions..,.

Hi all:...

Well, it's simple, if you have an aftermarket steering wheel, can you please post as much info about it as possible?, Reason for it, cost, source, happy with choice, if you had to do it over AND what state and state laws did you have to dance with to make it happen.

Hope it's not too much to ask, thanks all.

Gonzzo.

Gonzo,

I've replaced mine. I think the 4 spoke is a horrible eyesore, that's the only reason.

There are infinite options for replacements. The biggest consideration is whether you want to retain an airbag and how much you're willing to spend.

I went with a flat bottom flat dish NRG black leather and swapped the center bezel out for anodized red aluminum and found a Porsche leather momo horn button. This is mounted on an NRG quick release hub - if you do ANY flat wheel (as opposed to deep dish) you will need some kind of adapter to give you back the length, or else the wheel will sit right on top of the stalks. The quick release hub though is a godsend for two other reasons though - it makes getting under the dash a hell of a lot easier (for wiring stuff) and it makes it easier to get in and out of the car since I have high bolster racing seats.

If you have any other questions let me know.

Commenting to follow the thread. I strongly considered swapping to a Nardi or Momo wheel in the past, but the idea of losing the front airbag scared me out of it.

I had swapped my Miata steering wheel to an imported Nardi wheel, and a month after I got in a crash. It wasn't so bad that I hit the wheel, but now I'm gunshy to pull the airbag.

Granted my Miata's 25 year old airbag wouldn't have done much for me anyways.

Is an upgrade to this type of steering wheel possible?
