Roadtrip - Detroit to Washington, DC

Hi Folks!

My 98 Boxster has been hibernating in Detroit with my sister for the past year or so and I’m flying out with my daughter to pick it up and drive back to Washington, DC area this week.

We’re not in that big a hurry - any suggestions on good diversions and fun backroads to hit?

We definitely don’t mind dropping into some backroads… The direct route on the turnpikes isn’t that exciting and highways aren’t exactly where the boxster shines as well all know.

Thanks in advance!

Out of the way....

Chicago typical tourist locations (The Shed is wonderful, one of the best ones besides ones on the NE) Science museum is also great
Burbon trail in KY
Tail of the Dragon
Philly typical tourist stuff

Going east I dont think there is much in my opinion. Done that route couple dozen times. Check with some of the PCA chapters for the major towns you will be hitting, they will know the best roads to have fun on.

Unfortunately you will most likely run into rain for most of the trip depending on how far south you go due to the hurricane so might not get much top down weather.

Thanks for the info - yeah going east is a little tougher to find anything interesting.

My daughter is eight - so will probably tackle the bourbon trail in a few years.

It looks like there are some fun drives around Lancaster and some nice mountain drives we might divert into in Pennsylvania…. Might also jet up along Lake Erie a bit and catch the lake drive - seems like it’s pretty scenic if the internet is right…

New wipers a must for this week - hopefully we can wait it out and miss the worst of it..

Thanks for the suggestions!
