I bought my first Box for $15k!!!
 

Ok so I found a 99 box with 38k miles on it on autotrader for 16,988.... I then called and asked about it and where it was located (jacksonville) and for pics and a carfax.

After everything came up clean I told them the add said it was 15,988 knowing it really said 16,988 but I called their bluff just to see if theyd cave. They did.


So I get to jacksonville 4 days later after sending them a deposit to find the car wont start. No nothing. Turns out to be fault ignition switch and i spend 2 more days there and tell them ill pay 15k or ill leave.

They sold it to me for 15 k. Its clean as hell. I have a crappy pic of it. It also has a new top.

i could smell hustling...ahahahahaha j/k! My friend, you got yourself a good buy! enjoy it while still stock or before the mod's upgrade start to itch and have fun with it... :cheers:

Now it's time to get it to a Porsche mechanic (someone very familiar with older boxsters and all the stuff that wears out prematurely, cracks due to poor manufacturing, and was supposed to be replaced under warranty) and have them check it over very carefully.

My $15k boxster, albeit with far more miles on it when I bought it, was a cheap car to buy and VERY expensive to own. I do hope this is not the case for you.

Jacksonville? you could have had an inspection done at Brumos.

Dang, you talked them down 1988 bucks! your the man! I bought my 97 with 89k miles for $15500. In 3 years when i pony up for a 996, ill be giving you a call!

you should expect to lower the price about 2 graod f the asking price, in most cases with that kind of amount of money

Between your '99 and this guys 911 I could have picked up BOTH a Boxster and a Carerra for what I spent on my 986S two years ago! (but my my Boxster only had 10K miles :D )

hahah i guess you could use the word shrewd. I feel like I got a great deal. Other than the ignition switch problem, I have had my window broken by a freak accident(am replacing it today).

oh and ohioboxster, about your 99 16k boxster... its 15995... and has a broken screen for the ac controls, no premium audio system, and 20k more miles. so as I may have been able to negotiate his asking price os 15995, to 13995.... for 1000 more ill take mine with more options and less mileage... right?

There are many potential reasons behind a seller's aggressiveness. The more you give yourself credit for your negotiating skills, the less you focus on what those reasons are. Just some thoughts, from experience.

You did get a good deal on a Boxster, but I've found the old adage "you get what you pay for" to be true more often than not.

I hope you don't have lots of problems with the car. I bought my Boxster from a reputable dealership near me and I still bought the extended bumper to bumper warranty because when things go wrong with a Porsche they are very expensive to fix.

Not to burst your bubble, but if I were a dealer (and I was) and you came into my dealership with your strategy and you left with the car, I would be smiling. I can tell you that they DID know what price they listed the car for. You did not "outfox" them in any way.

In fact, they likely would have sold the car for $14,500.

Does that make you feel good or bad?

The REAL cost of this transaction to you will be determined over the next few years, if you keep the car that long. A Boxster can take you to the poor house faster than most cars.

The profit or loss for the dealer is complete. If he sold the car, it is probable that he made money but who can tell. Your financial cost can only go up, not down.

"Pride goeth before a fall" and I DO wish you luck. I hate to see a Boxster experience ruined by numerous expensive trips to the mechanic.

BTW-Do I understand it correctly that you did not have this car inspected BEFORE you purchased it? If so, that would be a major mistake.

micro switch(what the hell is that thing)
direction indicator
seatbelt
lower trailing(dont know what that is either)
convertible top(due to discoloration) haha
expansion tank(3 times) what is that thing?
control unit f
cd player
both sun visor
seat belts both this time
drivers door handle
ignition switch
door seal
fuel cap recall

These are likely only the warranty covered repairs. Anything after that is missing I would say.

The trailing arm is part of read suspension I believe.

Expansion tank could be the coolant tank or oil tank I believe.

Micro switch I haven't a clue.

could repeated coolant tank replacements be due to the porous engine block problem on 97-99's?
