I've had 4 Boxsters and currently a 996. Ignition switch R/R will typically cure whatever weird crap your car is doing. Don't waste time trying to convince yourself...its a $15 part and maybe an hour the first time you DYI.

As an example, I had a 98 that every now and then the stereo and A/C fan wouldn't work. Restart the car and all would be good.
On my 2000S, interior lights acted weird, sometimes not wanting to turn off.
I can't remember symptoms on other cars but the thing is, replacing the switch will work.

BTW, my preferred method of replacement is to remove the drivers side vent assembly. I found it much easier to replace the switch than crawling under the dash.

Also note that headlight switches are a pretty common failure item as well. This is not your problem right now but keep it in mind. The switch is fairly expensive but easy to replace.

Good luck and enjoy your car!
