Airbag Control Module

Does anyone know if the airbag control module is specific to the car its in? I'm finding conflicting information on whether the module has to recoded to the car its in. I was getting error 195 (bad module) so it wouldn't communicate with my Autel scanner when trying to clear the fault codes. I got a used module off Ebay, plugged it in and can communicate with it. But I'm now getting codes for both drivers and passengers seat belt tensioners. My understanding is my 2001 Boxster doesn't have those but the module came from a 2002 which should have had the pyrotechnic tensioners, hence why its looking for them.

I believe you need to verify that the DME version numbers are the same.
