Camshaft plugs

I'm having a issue with my camshaft plug on the passenger side lower cam. Both plugs pop out and the oil just pours out.

You have a pressure problem in the crankcase; the plugs just press in with finger pressure, if they are popping out, you do not have a functioning AOS unit supplying case vacuum.

I believed the mechanic put way to much oil. If the metal plug popped out also fo o have to have a machine shop press them back in. And if so can the lower cam be removed without taking the whole engine out

Can you elaborate a little more on what the issue is? Are you talking about the steel plug inside the camshaft? First thing I`d look at is the relief valve whether it`s stuck in the closed position. Bottom of the oil pump housing, easy access. Removing the cams is doable, just not typicallly a fun job, as Bypro said.

But if you are talking about the green plastic plug with the metal insert, you don`t need to remove anything, just press it back on and deal with pressure in the crankcase at the AOS...

The green plugs popping out tends to be an issue after cam covers are resealed with too much RTV.

This sounds interesting. What`s the connection?

there is a thin passageway in the cover that acts as a vent of some type (the particulars i do not know). too much rtv plugs the passageway and you get the plugs popping out

The permanent solution is to tap pipe threads in the cam end & screw in a pipe plug with sealant.

Thanks, that makes sense.
