Lost Cat May be Inside Boxster

Hi --

Our cat escaped the house, and ended up inside the garage, possibly up inside the Boxster. I've looked up around the wheels, and transmission, but that leaves most of the engine, and I know there's enough room on top of the engine for her (she's very small).

My question is, is there a way to lift the trunk liner enough to peek down into the engine compartment? I know the standard way is to open the convertible top, but I can't start the engine until I know she isn't in there.

You can’t access the engine through the trunk.
You can open the convertible top and access the engine without starting the car.

You can get to the top hatch and open it without opening the top.

How about opening the hatch behind the seats? That should give you an idea if your cat's stuck in there somewhere.

You don't need to start the engine to open the top. Just turn the key until it is in the drove position and don't go the extra click to engage the starter.

I got the top up, and both the top and front covers off. No cat. Crawled under the car far enough to be certain she is not on top of the transmission. She's not in the car.

Turns out there isn't enough room on top of the engine, but there is down on the passenger side, where the blower intake is.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions. I'll let you know if we find her.

Cat must be hungry by now.
Skake the food bag out there.
If the cat isnt in the boxster, check any other cars, under lawn mowers, etc...
They can fit into really tight spaces when they are scared and in hiding.

We caught her. Thanks to everyone who offered advice and encouragement.

We now think that she was only in the garage for a few seconds. Originally, I saw her racing up the left side of the garage, and disappear under the car. I raced up the middle of the garage to hit the close button, then ran back to stop or at least watch her run out. I didn't see her leave, so we assumed she was still in the garage. It's more likely that she made a U-turn at high speed (she's very fast) and was gone before I could turn around.

I put signs up, and our two-doors-down neighbor called to say he had seen her in his yard. Later, we saw her in our yard. Yesterday, I borrowed a live trap from a rescue, baited it with sardines, and we caught her soon after dark.

In putting the Boxster back together, I found I had bent the top, but I'll start a new thread for that one.

Good thing you didn’t have to do the cat delete!
