Bentley Service Manual
Hi - I am looking for a comprehensive listing of torque requirements for my 2004 SE. Does the Bentley Service Manual contain a good comprehensive list? If not, any suggestions on where to get such a list?
Thanks!

The Bentley manual has the torque settings listed within each section, I’ve found the manual very helpful and easy to use.

It`s useful, unless you want to delve deep into the engine, because in that case you will find not much in the Bentley. But it`s good for everything else.

I think the Bentley manual for $90.00 + is extremely lacking. Rather poor.
Even a modern day Chilton manual for say a Ford product is nothing like "the old days".

I agree. It was a total disappointment for me. Wayne`s book is way cheaper and contains more useful info. The Bentley may be good for troubleshooting and it has good circuit diagrams, but I think if you have a specific question, like what to do if your car throws an error code, you`ll end up spending much less time finding the answer if you just google it on this forum.

The Bentley has far more detail for more things than Wayne's book.
They both are useful. Wayne's book is really f=good for a lot of maintenance things and is an easier read.
You can also find the factory service manuals online, do a google search
IIRC Jake Raby has a book for sale specifically for torque values for 986/996
try the flat6 website

True. But the only thing I`ve touched on my car so far was the engine, starting with a complete tear down followed by a complete reassembly from scratch. For this task, I could not find anything useful in the Bentley which I found a bit surprising for a service manual that costs $90. Of course, I should have read the contents beforehand. Wayne`s book at least touches a couple engine-related projects with good pictures that come useful when you tackle your engine.

That was the point of my first post.
The cost of the book for the info within is a rip off.
I would have sent it back but then I was stuck with shipping and restocking fees.
Yes it does have useful info in it but for the cost you would hope the would include a list of specifications.
Simple things like the RPM spec. at idle.
That's an important parameter to have when trying to diagnose running issues.
Like bad MAF -vs- minor vacuum leak.
Or idle air control valve issues -vs- MAF. issues.
No list of general engine specs.??????
Piss poor.

The Bentley is not an engine rebuild book, nor meant to be. It is a general maintenance book

Well, maybe it`s just me, but I think if a book is advertised as a repair manual with specific engines listed, see below, it`s reasonable to assume that the reader will find a bit more information than how to remove the valve cover and replace the spark plug seal. Nothing about timing, nothing about replacing chain pads, etc. Things that are actually part of maintanance in these cars.
Porsche Repair Manual: Porsche Boxster, Boxster S: 1997-2004: Service Manual ****-**** Bentley Publishers - Repair Manuals and Automotive Books
Engines covered in this Porsche repair manual:
1997-1999 Porsche Boxster: 2.5 liter (M96/20)
2000-2004 Porsche Boxster: 2.7 liter (M96/22, M96/23)
2000-2004 Porsche Boxster S: 3.2 liter (M96/21, M96/24)

I just looked it up, actually if you follow the procedure in the book about removing the valve cover, you can end up breaking your camshafts as it says nothing about locking them down. Quite unbelievable. I wonder if the rest can be taken seriously..
