Electrics is my weak point but it seems to me that it would be a two position switch.
On and off.
I would pull it out and see how many wires go to it. then go from there.
You could then do some Google searching and learn how the switch works and how to test it. all you will need is a multimeter and a little research.
You have to have a starting point in a diagnostic process.
That starting point should always be the simplest easiest thing to check within the particular system your working on that you can think of.
You already know the red light on the switch stays on and that's not normal.
So the switch would be a good starting point. And it is relatively easy to get to and should be easy to test.
If it proves good then go to the next easiest most logical thing in the system and prove it good or bad.
One step at a time.
I am also sure someone on the forum with good electrical knowledge will jump in and give you some guidance.
