986Chick, in the POC you should feel very comfortable (and welcome) as there are many women that are driving instructors as well, and you will start from the very beginning in a completely safe environment.

Afterwards you will walk away a much safer driver (specially in the rain), give it a try, it is not really expensive and you will have a blast :-)
