New radio option for our cars
New single and double din head units for the 996/986 generation from Porsche themselves. Look nice but are not cheap
Wonder if this will work for cars with the Bose MOST system?? https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2020/products/porsche-classic-communication-management-infotainment-systems-classic-cars-20622.html |
Let's see…
PROS: "OEM" Porsche Period authentic look - best looking hard- and Software DAB+ High Resolution 7" Display (a little larger would have been possible though) The navigation displays in the instrument cluster are also still supported (?) CONS: Price (1520€) PLUS 85€ for Maps --> over 1600€...REALLY? For absolute high end maybe, but Made in China without even mentioning the power output? connectivity (no board computer Integration, no BT Car Play) updates (Maps and Android Software) ? screen visibility in an open Boxster ? Theft protection ??? No Video Input for back-up camera No WLAN No Back-up sensor Input No sim slot Haven't looked any further into it yet...for 300 bucks maybe, but for an additional 1300...not so sure |
How much? My CDR 220 has started to change inputs on its own...
Wife has alpine with CarPlay and I like it. A single Din with CarPlay would be great. |
Thanks for the links smallblock. Can't say I'm surprised that this is not the most cost effective solution on the market!
Bran I agree that this is something I would more seriously consider if it were a few hundred bucks, not 1000+. Shame because I really like the clean look of the single din unit. Prices are 1439 euros for the single din and 1606 euros for the double. |
I saw this email too! I am 50/50 as well. Price for sure is a deciding factor. But it does look pretty darn good!
|
Just saw, that Pioneer released a new DAB+ version for around 150 bucks...ordered...lol
SPH-20DAB Next generation 1-DIN receiver with DAB/DAB+ Digital Radio, Bluetooth, USB and Spotify. Connects to iPhone & Android devices. |
I'm pretty satisfied with the head unit I got from Bergvill FX. I have the Bose/MOST setup and the installation is clean and looks correct for my 2004 986.2S
This is what I bought and installed several months ago: Head unit: https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php/products/car-audio/continental-tr7412ub-or.html I had to email them for the "MOST/Bose" harness and it was about as expensive as the head unit but I didn't want to mess with rewiring everything. I also had to buy an antenna adapter from Amazon because the one Bergvill had didn't work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WNN8RPZ/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 |
Man, if those where's $1500 I'd jump on one, but I run everything through my iPhone, so as long as my Becker keeps working as an AUX input I'm happy.
|
I also bought a Continental deck from Bergville FX a few months back. So far, so good. I am a happy customer.
|
It sucks those Conti units don't have line outs. Nice looking units. But my system is wired with a 4 channel amp etc. Looks like I will go Alpine when I decide to pull the dash apart to do my foam blowing vents!

For that much money I'd rather put it towards a Quaife differential.

Oh sure, I suppose I wasn’t very clear. Notice how the background of the climate control is black and the numbers are orange? Now, the background of the radio is orange, and the numbers are black. They’re opposite. There should be a way to reverse the colors of the radio’s LCD panel so that they would match perfectly. Possibly a polarity switch? |

Putting that spendy of a radio in an open top car doesn’t make sense to me. To easy for someone to steal. I like the factory look but... no.

No thank you.
I put in a Pioneer double din a few months ago for a fraction of that price. Keep in mind, that price doesn't include installation. |
Good information thank you for posting!
Just as an aside how do all find apple car play? I understand it to be quite restrictive as compared to an apple mobile device such as an iPad with a data card. |
