				Hardtop Installation

I bought a used hardtop. It has the pins but not the leavers.

I am not sure how much effort is required to attach the top. I am thinking that I could take an old socket cut a slot and use that to turn the latches.

Any ideas or feedback? Thanks

I installed the Spin Lock installation kit.
It looks like when the pins are spun/turned they lock into place. I wonder how much pressure is required?

That doesn’t look like a factory 986 hard top from the pictures you’ve posted. Is it an aftermarket top or a 996 hard top? Maybe you can post more pictures of the whole top?

We need to see a picture of the entire top, that isn't a factory 986 hardtop. What car do you have: 986, 987, 996, 997?

The part missing the handle appears similar/same to the two on my humps. The pin, to which a handle is attached/affixed, with the two little protusion things sticking out... seats into the spinlock. You'll see how it must align, pressing down on the pin, but not too hard. You don't want to break the handle which is what, I believe, happened somewhere along the line before you received the top. That said...

Once you know you've got the pin seated, and with the handle in your hand, start back-and-forthing the handle as you snuggle it down. You'll know when you hit the sweet spot because the handle will fall into that locking snuggle position. If, when you're snugging things down you meet with resistance... spray a little lubricant onto the pin. That oughta slide it in.

If you can't source just the handle... you may have to buy the entire part.

Good luck.

I am fairly certain that is a 996 hardtop, it won't fit on a 986.

Can anyone help confirm. I don't want to misrepresent what I am selling.
Thanks for all your help.

Yes that is a 996 hardtop! They are much more common because they were standard on the 996 convertible for at least several years if not all years. The hardtop was always an extra option on the Boxster.

What is it worth to move it sooner rather than later?
Put it on eBay?
$800

Contact DanielAndrew. He'll get you $4389.34 for it, even without the handles.
Try to sell it locally, eBay/Craigslist unless you're prepared to ship that monster. I'd bet $800 and it would be gone quickly. Might want to check on for how much those tops are going, and price accordingly.

Best wishes.

If you are a PCA member, list it on pca.org classifieds.

Where are you located? Hopefully in a high Porsche population area as most ppl interested will need to come pick it up rather than ship it. GLWS.
