Cdr 23 = cdr 220?
Anyone know if the CDR 23 radio from a Carrera can replace the CDR 220 in my '02 Boxster? The facia on mine has gone dark and I found a good deal on the CDR 23.
Or let me know if you've a CDR220 you'd part with.
Thanks.

No, the CDR23 will only work in '03-'04 Boxsters with the optical MOST bus to the amplifier and CD changer.
You will need to find another CDR220 if you want to stay with a stock radio.

MOST only matters if you have an amp or CD changer. A CDR-23 also had analog outputs for speakers
The big issue with a CDR-23 is the security,. It needs to be programed in the DME or it won't function. Older radios had a code that could be entered throughout he radio.
There is a Contential radio that looks like a factory radio and has modern functions like bluetooth.
Do a search and you should find more info

How good a quality is the Continental radio? Is installation pretty straighforward?

I've seen the Continental radio and that is likely the way I'll go. Was just hoping to save a bit.
Boxmann, installation requires an additional harness that Continental sells for like $25. Makes installation plug/play.

Since the front face (with the LCD) of the CDR220 comes off by pressing the little black buttons on the side (once thought to deter radio theft...lol) ....I wonder if all you need is a new face plate?.......might find one or even if you find another whole CDR220 perhaps just using that face will solve your problem....easier than pulling the whole radio.......just a thought.

The bummer with the Continental units is they are speaker level out only. No line/low level RCA outputs. If you go for a full amp etc. install it complicates things a bit.

Can you explain what "complicates things" means?
I have the CDR 23 with the Bose package. I've been told that if I change the head unit, I'll need to also change the amp. Does that sound correct?
