where is this oil from?
I took a look, preparing to perform a thermo/WP swap and noticed this oil all over the front of the drivers side bank. This is right behind the drivers seat on a US market car.
Is this burping out of a breather valve or something? The passenger side bank and center of engine is clean.

Could be a broken aos hose or even overheating ps fluid thats getring dumped out the overflow

Both responses are a relief...the previous owner was a moron. Everything he had done is ****************ed up, and he had the “fluids changed.” This means I’ll bet the ps reservoir was overfilled. His guy spilled brake fluid all over the frunk and bubbled the paint under the carpet, put in the windshield wipers UPSIDE DOWN. I had a receipt for him replacing the MAF, which I just replaced today. It was glued together and silicone sealed into intake because he somehow broke it to pieces.
I’ll clean it up and expect it never to return.

Oh yeah, and he replaced the AOS. I sure that’s wrong too. Sorry, when I work on the 2002, I need to vent a little. Thanks to all for being there

PS fluid leaking/overflow is very common. Not the best design from Porsche.

I had the same oil residue in that area and replaced the pcv and that seemed to stop the leak. It’s been about 1k miles since I replaced it. 2001 s with 48k miles. Kinda tight in that area but not too difficult, hope this helps.

I have the same, not as much. It's gets sticky. I believe it's PS fluid also.

That is PS fluid... no question just based on location. It’s a real b-tch to clean too. As mentioned sticky crap. Look on top of your motor as well. There are several deep recesses that fill with fluid, then they drip down the front. Way easier to clean with the AC comp out. Not a fun job...
