Polyester vs. Clearcoat+wax, thoughts?

I grabbed the tough polyester soft-top cover that some people here have spoke highly of. I'm actually reluctant to put it on until I get the car washed, even if it's on just the soft-top portion.

My question was if anyone can guess the resilience of the car's painted finish against the polyester of the cover. Normally this shouldn't be an issue, but aside from incidental contact when I put the cover on, I'm also thinking about the A-pillars, which the cover will be covering. As long as the cover stays relatively clean, thoughts are polyester shouldn't be a problem scratching the clearcoat or anthing?

yeah there is some brushing gainst the clamshell and a pillars on mine but what can you do...Nothing that one come out with a swirl remover like Poorboys SSR1.
What I would urge you not do is to to attach it via the doorhandles. Snip those of with scissors. Attach the soft top cover from the windshield and rear trunk only.
Constant brushing against the door handle will scratch the finish.

Use a thick sealant or wax on the clamshell and a pillars. I'm about to try a sample size ($5) of FK 1000P from finishkareusa.com
It's said to be like adding another layer of clear coat. I'm not super impressed with their polishes but their express detail sprays are the best I've used. Hopefully this wax will work well also.

MN, no drinking on the job!
Although I just made my first ever trip to Costco and I have enough household cleaning supplies to last me a year. Now how did I spend $180?

Thanks Perfect, it looks like my toneau cover I never used. Does thing thing only work when the top is up? A top protector of some sort? I think mine works only with the top down to keep sun, dirt, doo-doo out but I'm not positive.

yeah its to keep the soft top from fading when its out in the sun or in bad weather. I'm on my second one, the 1st one was like the one in the pic the other was black and made from a stiffer materials which made it easier to slid over.

You should see how faded the 1st one looked after only one summer. Its kept my interior looking brand new as well. Well worth the $50.
