2001 Boxster S Front bumper center cooling duct inlet trim ring removable?

I've pulled my bumper cover to do some cleaning, replacing ballast on drivers side and reinstalling mesh in front of the intakes.

I'd love to pull the front trim ring off so I can squeeze mesh between that and the plenum piece.

I had little problem getting the side inserts out and meshing them. It's all moch'd up as I'm going to pull it apart again and fill paint chips and repaint.

Yes, the trim ring is removable from the fascia. Imagine would have to do it carefully.

Right

But I'm just hoping someone that's taken it apart could respond as to what the trick is. I'm not forcing it but it's not budging.

I put 'gutter guard' mesh on my intakes including the centre. I chose to mount the mesh to the duct rather than the bumper and it worked quite well. I used 3 plastic expansion rivets to attach the mesh after drilling holes in the duct.
