Great reason to never go to Jiffy Lube!

I always do all of my own maintenance...I always have, ever after watching service techs screw things up over the years! Clearly the previous owner wasn't so hands-on because as I was crawling under the car this weekend I saw that the two lines (.5"-1" diameter) that run under the passenger side rocker are partially crushed by a previous attempt at jacking the car!! Who jacks up a car without looking??? Jesus...

Anywho, I apologize in advance for the dumb question but: can someone tell me what these lines are for? I'm assuming they're going up to the radiators for the AC? I bought my Boxster in October and havent gotten a chance to buy a comprehensive service manual yet (Got scammed on another Boxster forum, but that's another story...).

Look on 'Auto Atlanta site and you can find lots of great parts diagrams for the car.
You haven't stated the year of your car or where on the passenger side the lines are so it's kind of hard to tell. My guess is you are correct on your guess.

Uh, what does jacking up the car have to do with Jiffy Lube?
Last time I checked, those oil change places don't jack up the car

Yes good point...it's a 2004 base model. The lines are about 4" inboard of the sheet metal seem that runs the length of the car. The lines seem to run from the motor area to the front RHS of vehicle. (I have a pic but I can upload to forum from phone...annoyingly)

Right hand side? If they were on driver's side (left side) I'd have said power steering.

Ok, so it might be a stretch to blame Jiffy Lube, but Jiffy Lube sucks so I'll blame them anyway.

Scammed on RennTech.org: I paid "PorscheLibrarian" to help me get the the OBDII Code trouble shooting manual and he quickly ghosted me. I've been emailing, DM'ing him, contacted him through Paypal for the last two months and haven't heard a peep from him. I then read elsewhere on the forum that I was not the first person to send him money and get nothing in return. Stupid me.

Thanks for the shaming, I've officially introduced myself in the New Members area. I'm a lurker no more.

And finally, PICTURES! It's hard to see in the pictures but the dents match the profile of my floor jack pretty perfectly.

FYI, most Jiffy Lube's will refuse to work on a Porsche.

Could be A/C lines ?

I think those hoses are for the brakes and clutch. Coolant runs down the center, so it's not those.




EDIT: Just noticed you said it was the passenger side, I believe those are the fuel lines, seen in the diagram going off to the right.

What exactly are you looking for as far as OBDII codes.
I'm pretty sure someone here will have that info and most likely for free

Yeah, usually people in all the vehicle forums I've used have been completely honest, great people. This was an unpleasant surprise! I'm looking for a resource to tell me what I should do to correct the various error codes - troubleshooting steps for each code. I'm also looking for a decent repair manual. I could just buy the Bentley manual, but if there's something better out there, I'll take it!

Best bet is to get a Durametric as it reads most of the Porsche specific codes and gives you errors in real english. A regular OBDII reader won't give you a lot of error codes that the DME can generate

The Bentley is pretty good for troubleshooting most things. I don't know of any other repair guides that are better other than the factory one. You may find one online

Thanks for the advice, I've got a nice Foxwell tool that can read all the Porsche codes and test/power up various systems...I just don't always know what to do once I get a code... My brain says, "oh great, the code tells me that there's a communication error between the radio and the computer (as an example)... So now what do I *actually* dooooo?"
