Door not locking - 01 Boxster S

I just picked up a 01 Boxster S, and the doors are not locking. They do not lock with the interior door lock button, do not lock with the key fob. When I turn the key to lock the car, it immediately unlocks electronically after I take out the key. The trunk and frunk do not unlock with the remote.

When I press the remote, the horn beeps twice, but the doors do not unlock.

The battery was recently replaced.

What can I troubleshoot for this?

Check the carpet under the driver’s seat to see if it is wet. The immobilizer is under the seat and if it gets wet it can cause problems. Also check for a blown fuse.

If those quick checks don’t identify the problem, I suggest that you use a Porsche-specific scan tool to identify fault codes. I use a Durametric although there are other systems available. http://www.durametric.com/Durametric_Software_Instruction_Manual.pdf

If you don’t want to purchase a tool, you may want to take the car to a Porsche specialist and ask them to scan the car for you. This may cost a few dollars, but it may be less costly in the long run because you will avoid replacing parts on a trial and error basis.

Where are you located in Virginia?

Good discussion of possible causes.
