Need more info.
Where are you?
By owner or dealer?
Clear, rebuit, salvage title?
How many owners?
Color?
Auto or manual?
Has 60K service been completed?
How old are tires, brakes coolant, brake fluid, serpentine belt (see above)?
Any accidents? Paint work? dings? chips?
Does top work?
Condition of top?

You get the idea.

Lowest clear title 05 I've seen within a 200 miles was $9,950 for a car 1 owner manual base with ~100K miles. Seemed like a decent deal but took 9 months to sell.
Highest base cars I've seen with similar miles is ~$14K.
I'm in the southeast.

05s are such a crapshoot. It might have the Gen II or Gen III IMS. The Gen II has an 8-10% chance of failure but it can be replaced. The Gen III has a 1% chance of failure but cannot be replaced. No way to know which IMS you have unless the build date is on the extreme ends of the 05 production run. Otherwise you must pull the transaxle and look.

If IMS is not a big deal to you and you can live with either of those odds, then by all means pursue the car if you like it. If not, look for an 06 or newer to get the Gen III IMS or an 03-04 that has the replaceable IMS. If the IMS hasn't been replaced, you can bargain the final price based on it costing $3K to change it.

Oh..Yea.. Thanks, I kinda forgot about that,.I was also thinking to wait for the 09's to show up but if they are a much better engine I wouldn't think prices will drop much for that model .

A dealer for another make is inspecting a Boxster and saying it passed?!?!

What would they know.

For this price, I'd want records of regular maintenance. And still do a PPI. For a good looking good driving car with some spotty records my PPI still showed me 5 or 6 things I wanted done right then.
