Boxster Drivers Window Drop

My 02 base Boxster drivers window drops but you can then push it down to the proper drop level. Close the door and returns to the top. I’ve removed door panel and viewed operation, motor works perfect, window cables seem very tight. It does clear the the top. Not sure, but I understand it’s the window regulator. Jerry

Disconnect the battery and try the relearn procedure before getting greasy.

The regulators are a known issue. The cables stretch and they start acting up. There is a bike cable adjuster hack that may buy you some time. I have DIY replaced both of mine with OEM parts. I tried URO and had issues that led me back to stock. It can be a finicky job to get them adjusted correctly.

My 04 Boxster has the sane issue. When you open the door, push down on the door glass a little. When you shut the door, the glass will close properly. Mine would hit the top frame if I didn’t do that.

TellMe More

Hi BoxsterSteve,

Can you tell me more about the 'relearn process' ?

IIRC - you lower the window all the way, hold the button down for 5 seconds, and then raise the window all the way and also hold the button for 5 seconds while it's at max height. That should do the trick.

However, for me, I had to replace the regulator since the relearn trick stopped working for me after a few months. It's not a hard DIY - just a little finnicky. Can definitely be done though. I used the URO part because I'm cheap. It has held up fine for the past 10 months.

That process is the one for auto window relearn. I am not sure that this process relearns the window drop...that has to do with microswitches and regulators. Regulator also has the gravel sound when you lower the window.

If you watch the regulator cable while you are pushing up and down on the window, you will see that it is not taught. This is how I fixed mine 8 years ago. This window still operates perfectly after installing the bicycle brake cable adjuster. Takes about 30 minutes to do, including removing the door interior panel. No need to pull the regulator out of the door to install. Photos show the passenger side regulator.
