I installed the cat delete pipes, and did the muffler mod (basically poking a sharp rod into the tailpipes as they come out of the muffler). It is somewhat louder inside the car, with a lower, more guttural tone. I'm happy, and it only cost me around $100 for the cat delete pipes. Much cheaper than a new system, and no drone.

I felt the same way about my exhaust and the cost to upgrade to something better. Recently I had a problem with my trunk actuator and had to practically disassemble the entire rear of my car. In the process I removed the muffler. The sound was exactly what I wanted. A little loud but pretty acceptable. Then I had two exhaust pipes made to replace the muffler. The go from the u-bend pipes toward the center of the car then 90 degrees out the back. That cut down the sound to almost perfect for me. I have ordered two tips from summit and I will be all set. The pipes cost $50.00 installed, the tips are $18.00 a piece. So for $100 i have what I wanted. I live in California, so I have to keep all 4 cats to be legal and to get it smogged. Send me a message at 530-304-7990 and I'll send you some pictures. 2000 base Boxster 2.7 muffler delete.
