thanks and sorry for the thread necromancy.
To remove the cigarette lighter, you only need to remove the side trim piece (it just snaps in/out).
Once you have the trim out, it's fairly self explanatory.

sorry to be dim, but just to make sure as LHD cars might be different in respect for lighter location?

what 'side trim' are you referring to? to the side of the socket is either the stereo or the glovebox, neither have a trim i could remove.

or do you mean the whole surround part that goes around the top console?

I'm looking for ideas on where to put one.
I put in a new head unit which also will play music from a USB stick, which I really get a kick out of.
No more CD wallets!
There appears to be a round space opposite the cigarette lighter on the trim panel which is unused.
Can I drill a hole there and put in a USB port that is held in by a screw from the back?
Or does anyone have a better location that won't be in the way of passengers or the gear shift?
Thanks!
there are hundreds of choices on amazon...dash mount works best for USB sticks and even charge cables IMHO because in between the seats get messed up by the drunks you end up driving around. Located in the right place on the dash is out of the way.
