Boxster S Battery dead, cannot open the trunk
My battery is dead in my 2001 Boxster S and I don't know what to do because the hood release is electronic and the cable under the wheel well isn't there and it's about to rain.

Do you have the red pull out tab in the fuse box?
Let this be a lesson: find and move the emergency release cable to an accessible location. ;) |
I have the red tab. I connected duracell jump box and it didn't work, it just sounded the alarm and drained my jump box https://www.duracellpower.com/products/lithium-ion-jump-starter
I need the exact location of the pull cable. |

this will work. Ground it and find a place to insert power.....

I own a 2001 S myself and the red tab does not work on my car... check in the passenger side rad (corner bumper) and see if you see a silver cable loop sticking through. Pull this cable hard and the front trunk will open (manual hood release).

OK, i have the red pull thing in my fuse box. Am I supposed to connect power to it or pull it really hard?

Connect power to it and the ground to the body (door striker).

DrCactus I need more clarification. I know where the release is on a Boxster Base, but I can't find it on my S. Is it in the wheel well?

I can pull my headlight out without tools. That's where it is. If yours has never been relocated it, you will need to take the passenger side wheel off to access it. |
Another method
My fuse box connection would not work for me when my battery died for some reason. I used a phillips screwdriver with tape around the shaft except the point, connected the ground at the door jamb and the positive on the phillips and touched it to the inside connection point on the lighter.....instantly the lights came in the dash and I hit trunk open and it popped open. I then disconnected everything and got a new battery.

When my battery died, I put power from another vehicle to the cigarette lighter. You can get enough power through the cigarette lighter to deactivate the hood locking mechanism.
I used the cords that came with my trickle charger to get power to the cigarette lighter. My trickle charger came with three cords: cigarette lighter, alligator clips, and ring terminals. I simply connected the alligator clip harmess to the cigarette lighter harmess enabling me to connct regular jumper cables. NOTE: the polarity will be reversed so make sure to connect your battery correctly. It may sound crazy, but you can hook up jumper cables to a cigarette lighter and not damage your car. I now carry this little harnes with me at all times. Just in case... |
I used the posted method from the manual (with my digital battery charge) to pop the frunk on my mother's '06 987 when the battery was flat. However, I had to have it powered on for a minute or so, it wasn't immediate.

I just used the fuse box connection and it worked fine. Now for the idiot that left the interior light on.
