Inner tie rod removal tools
My tie rod ends are needing replacement. I ordered replacement inner tie rods as well, because 1) "while you're in there", and 2) I want to remove the whole thing to compare the old/new side by side and hopefully keep the alignment closer.
The traditional inner tie rod tools obviously require removing the outer end. Has anyone used a crowfoot or something like this: https://www.amazon.com/ABN-Inner-Tie-Rod-Tool/dp/B06XWBZ4YN/ In short, does it work on our cars? |
Just use a large pipewrench

Yeah, looks like that would work if you remove the skid plate. As it turns out, I ended up doing just the ends after all - after popping the ball joints out, the inners still felt very smooth. But mostly I didn't want to deal with the hose clamps on the boot. Another project for a rainy day, I guess.
Somehow I think I made my alignment better than it was before, go figure. |
I bought the one that Harbor Freight sells and it work perfectly when I did the job.
